Rhode Island voters approved a bond issue in November 2010 that will provide funding to “Open the Fort,” the first phase in a long range plan to increase public access and use of the Fort, and build support for restoring additional areas of this state and national treasure. The first phase will open the interior of the Fort for self-guided tours, to be followed by opening the outer works and other areas long closed to the public.
Fort Adams is already an important cultural and economic asset for the city and the state as an attraction and site for major events and festivals. We believe the Fort has tremendous potential to contribute even more to our communities in the future.
With this new opportunity come challenges. The bond funds are for capital improvements only; in order to be sustainable the nonprofit Fort Adams Trust must broaden its base of support to ensure sufficient operating funding, without which the work at the Fort would come to a halt. That is why we are asking for your support preserving the Fort and keeping it in productive use for all.
The attached page contains details about our new corporate membership program. We have tried to provide benefits that will help your business such as discounts on using the Fort for company functions and passes to Newport attractions to reward employees or customers. Your support will help Fort Adams become a premier attraction in both Rhode Island and Newport.
